On April 21, 2012 a major exhibition opens to the public dedicated to Luca Signorelli (Cortona 1450 -1523), one of the most important masters of the Renaissance, an artist "of ingenuity and pilgrim spirit" (as he was described by Giovanni Santi, father of Raphael), active in Central Italy from 1470 to 1523. The solo exhibition that opens in Perugia is the first since 1953.
The exhibition, which features over 100 works, 66 of which are by the painter from Cortona, is being held in three venues: the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria in Perugia; in the Cathedral, the Museo dell’Opera and in the Church of the Holy Apostles in Orvieto; and in the Pinacoteca Comunale of Città di Castello.
In line with regional policy, which for years has been committed to promoting a green economy, for the first time an environmentally sustainable exhibition is being held, using recyclable materials, special lights and solar panels that can produce a substantial part of the power required by the exhibition, thus greatly reducing fixed running costs.
The Umbria region has also contributed to making this multi event exhibition more accessible by producing this new application, that not only provides tourist, organizational and scientific information but takes you on a virtual tour of the San Brizio Chapel in Orvieto Cathedral; this universal app, made for your iPhone and iPad, is also optimized for the new iPad3.
